Plenary Session | New Era for Employee Development: Building a Culture of Innovation in The Workplace
11:00 - 12:00
Businesses, for-profit and nonprofit, are facing change like never before. Forces such as rapidly expanding marketplace (globalization), increasing competition, diversity among consumers, availability of new technological platforms, and persistence of systemic problems drive the change that can really usher an era of creative destruction - badly affecting those who fail to recognise and transform and reward those who lead in this trajectory. For the last decade or so, the norm has been to outsource innovation but we are of late witnessing a change in this landscape as more and more organisations are created bourne out of innovation, and more established brands learn to transform themselves from inside out.
To innovate is to intentionally let go of the “way things are” and welcome “the way they could be.” It has been said that ‘breakdown’ is the first step toward innovation, an intentional release of established habits of thought, expectations, assumptions, and beliefs in order to embrace “not knowing”. Business operations on the other hand is based on control. This panel will discuss and examine by which their organisations are able to manage the change (‘breakdown’ and ‘control’) to build and operationalise that culture of creativity and innovation in their workplace.
